What kind of milling cutter is good for milling and quenching steel?

After quenching, the hardness of the material is generally above HRC50, so the requirements for milling tool materials are extremely demanding. Currently, common materials include ordinary cemented carbide.

(1) Select fine-grained and ultra-fine-grained (WC) based cemented carbide tools. Using cobalt as the bonding base, increasing the cobalt content can improve toughness. Refining grains can improve hardness and wear resistance. Ordinary cemented carbide grains have a grain size of 2 to 3 delta m, fine grains are 1 to 2 delta m, and ultra-fine grains are less than 0.5 delta m.

(2) TIC-based, Ti (C, N) -based cemented carbide. Using Ni2Mo as a binder, the specific gravity is small, the TiC-based alloy has high hardness, low friction coefficient with steel, and good wear resistance; the properties of Ti (C, N) -based cemented carbide are similar to TiC-based, and the strength and plasticity resistance are higher than those of TiC-based cemented carbide.

(3) Coating cemented carbide. Coating a thin layer of TiC, Ti (C, N), TiN, Al2O3 coated cemented carbide on a tough cemented carbide substrate by CVD or PVD method can improve the cutting speed of cemented carbide, reduce cutting force, increase wear resistance and service life.
